Andrew Kinney (2007-10) was a four-year letter winner for the SMSU baseball team and closed his career as one of the top power hitters in team history.

A native of Coon Rapids, Minn., Kinney led the Mustangs as a true freshman in 2007 with a team-high nine home runs and also tied for the team lead with 31 RBIs, helping SMSU record 26 wins and place third in the NSIC.

During his sophomore season in 2008, he batted .364 and led the team in both home runs (seven) and RBIs (47). He also pitched in seven games with four starts and earned one victory and two saves.

The 2009 season was a special season for not only Kinney, who put up monster numbers, but the Mustang baseball program as well. Kinney tied a school record with 17 home runs, while batting .408 and leading the team with 55 RBIs. He was named All-NSIC first team, was named NCBWA /ABCA/ Daktronics All-Region and capped the season earning NCBWA All-American honorable mention honors. Kinney helped lead the Mustangs to 28 victories and the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. He batted 7 for 16 with seven RBIs, two home runs and seven runs scored in three games at the NCAA Tournament to earn all-tournament accolades.

Kinney had another big season as a senior in 2010 tying the single-season home run record once again and during the season became the program’s all-time leader in home runs with 50. He batted .349 and led the club with 48 RBIs, in helping SMSU win 29 games and finish as NSIC Tournament runners-up.

Kinney finished his career ranking first in school history in home runs (50), RBIs (181) and total bases (390), while ranking second in school history in slugging pct. (.721). He batted .360 with 37 doubles and scored 153 runs. He also pitched in 12 games and recorded four victories and two saves. Following his SMSU career, he signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians organization.
