SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Josh Turek (1997-2002) was a member of the Mustang wheelchair basketball program for five seasons and is the most decorated player in team history not only for his time at SMSU, but for his post-Mustang playing career.
A native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Turek was a dominate force for the Mustangs closing his career with a school record 4,024 points and setting program single-season and career records for field goals made, 3-pointers made and points. He also pulled down 1,213 career rebounds.
A four-time team captain and four-time team MVP, Turek was a four-time NWBA All-American (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) and was named SMSU’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2001-02.
Following his collegiate playing career, Turek played professionally overseas for 18 years and was a member of four Team USA Paralympic teams (2004, 2012, 2016, 2021). Turek was a key member of Team USA that captured two Paralympic gold medals in 2016 and 2021 and took home the bronze in 2012.
