SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Sharon DeRemer (women's tennis, 1981-84) was the first great tennis star at SMSU and helped head coach Hugh Curtler build the foundation for nine straight NSC championships and 11 consecutive NAIA District 13 crowns.
DeRemer in 1984 became the first female recipient of the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship of the Year Award, given to annually by the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association to one player in each division based on playing accomplishments, scholastic and extracurricular activities, sportsmanship, character and humanitarian concern.
She was named an NAIA Scholar Athlete All-America in both 1983 and 1984, was named to four all-conference teams and was the NSC No. 1 singles champion in 1984 DeRemer was also a two-time team captain. She finished her career with a record of 72-41, currently ranking seventh all-time at SMSU (as of 2010).
