Cindy Olson (women's basketball, 1976-80) was a four-year letterwinner for SMSU's powerhouse teams of the late 1970s.  Olson scored 1,464 points  in only 74 games and became the first SMSU women's basketball player to score over 1,000 points.

Olson ended her career holding the school single-season record with 536 points, 212 field goals, 486 field goal attempts, 112 free throws made and 168 free throws attempted, all in 1977-78.  She still ranks (as of 2010) among the top five in school history in career field goals made and attempts.

Olson was named to the Minnesota Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women all-tournament teams in 1978 and 1979.  A knee injury ended her senior season after seven games.  Olson was selected by the Minnesota Fillies in the 10th round of the 1980 Women's Professional Basketball League draft.

Olson was inducted into the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Hall of Fame in 2001.
