SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Charlie Taylor (men's basketball, 1981-83) transferred to SMSU after two seasons at Polk Community College (Fla.). He was named All-NIC in both 1982 and 1983 and NAIA All-District and NAIA honorable mention All-America in 1983.
He averaged 20.2 points per game as a junior and 23.5 as a senior and led both teams in field goals, free throws, steals, assists and points. Taylor scored 30 or more points 10 tiimes and currently ranks eighth (as of 2010) in school history with 1,226 points. He also finished his career setting a school record with 127 assists during the 1981-82 season and followed that with 126 assists the following seasons. The two total currently rank third and fourth respectively (as of 2010) in the school single-season record books.
