SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
The 1975-76 men's swimming & diving team hosted the NAIA Championships and placed sixth in the national meet, the team's top finish in national competition. Seven Mustangs - Steve Binder, Randy Brezina, Pat Doar, Gregg Higdem, Tom Moehn, Jim Norton and Jon Stewart - were all named NAIA All-America. Three others received NAIA All-America honorable mention.
Stewart stole the spotlight in his home pool, winning three individual national championships. His winning times in the 200-, 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle finals were the fastest times ever recorded for the NAIA finals in each race. The team posted a 7-3 dual record and won the conference meet.
