SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor
Dave Garman (1972-76) was a key member of the SMSU swimming & diving program for four seasons and also was a member of the Mustang football program.
A native of Marshall, Minn., Garman was a standout diver for the program and helped the Mustangs become one of the top programs, not only in the Northern Intercollegiate Conference, but among the best in NAIA.
During his junior season in 1974-75, Garman won the 3-meter conference title with a record score of 483.55. Later that season he earned NAIA All-American honors in 3-meter diving with a sixth-place finish at the NAIA Championships.
As a senior in 1975-76, Garman served as team co-captain, while placing second at the NIC Championships and earning NAIA All-American honorable mention accolades.
Garman closed his career placing in the top five for three straight seasons at the NIC Championships. He was a member of four straight NIC Championship teams with three of the teams finishing among the top 16 at the NAIA Championships.
Garmen was also a member of the SMSU football program for two seasons, including serving as the team’s punter during the 1975 campaign.
